Interim Report from Donation Recipients Working to Rebuild Communities from Earthquake/Tsunami Damage
We thank all of you for your kind support and donation to the three organizations which we selected as grantees.
1) “Disaster Recovery Leadership Development Project” by ETIC
2) “Welcome to Your Tokyo Home Project” by Tokyo Midwives Association
3) “Free Medical Checkup to Evacuees in the Affected Areas” by Carepro
We are pleased to share their progress reports here.
Furthermore, we chose a project called SHOKAY for TOHOKU for the fourth grantee, which was started by a SVP Tokyo partner.
SHOKAY for TOHOKU supports women in the earthquake and tsunami hit area in Tohoku by providing income-generating opportunity through teaching skills to make stylish hand-knitted products. This project also aims to build good community in evacuation sites and temporary housings. The products are made of precious yak yarns provided by SHOKAY (http://www.shokay.com/), an ethical knit brand.
Please see their recent news at http://shokay.jp/news/2011/12/000479.html (Japanese only).
Thank you very much again for your support.
Though SVP Tokyo finished accepting donations for rebuild-related activities, we keep on investing in capacity building to support social entrepreneurs and Partners’ development as philanthropists through our work with Investees.
